Common questions from Central Coast customers about 3 phase power.

Do I actually need three-phase?

Only if you're running gear that calls for it: bigger welders, industrial compressors, certain machine tools, or the aircon installer has said so. Most homes run fine on single-phase. Cam will work out the right answer for your setup on the site visit, and won't push you to upgrade if you don't need it.

How long does a three-phase upgrade take?

Depends on whether you need an Ausgrid service upgrade or just internal work. Internal upgrades are typically a day. A full service upgrade coordinated with Ausgrid takes 2–3 weeks lead time for the metering swap.

Can you wire industrial machinery?

Yes, that's what Cam did in mining. Motor starters, control circuits, three-phase machinery wiring is all on the table. Send through the equipment spec sheet and he'll quote.

Will three-phase save me money on power?

Not directly. Three-phase doesn't change what you pay per kWh. What it does change is your ability to run bigger loads simultaneously without tripping. Worth it for the right home, overkill for most.
